The Global Commodity Exhibition and Service Center
of Dongxing City is a company that is engaged in exhibition
and popularization of commodities from home and abroad as well
as in service for Sino-Vietnam border trades. Started by foreign
investors, it enjoys high social prestige and great capital
strength keeping good trade relations with domestic and foreign
business clients (It's only 500 meters away from the Sino-Vietnam
borders).
Meanwhile it has set up wide commercial networks
in Vietnamese cities like Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City etc. providing
quick service channels for businessmen of both countries to
develop the Sino-Vietnam market.
Dongxing City lies in the southwestern most on
the coastlines of China's Mainland, its southeast close to Beibuwan
Bay and its southwest bordering Vietnam. It is the most convenient
land and sea passage from Guangxi and China's Great Southwest
to Southeast Asia; it is also the only port linking China with
Vietnam by sea and land.
Dongxing is a State's first class port and an
open borderline city approved by the State Council. In September
1992, the State Council Special Economic Zones Office approved
Dongxing City to set up an economic cooperation zone with an
area of 4.07 sq. km. On April 29, 1996, the State Council approved
the founding of Dongxing City (county level) governing three
towns: Dongxing, Jiangping and MaLu.
It has 33 kilometers of land borderline and 50
kilometers coastline, with a total area of 481 sq. km. and a
population of 120,000. It is the only settlement of Jing nationality
in China and is one of Guangxi's famous overseas Chinese hometowns
that presently has 13,000 overseas Chinese.
There is convenient land and water transportation
in Dongxing, which is 180 km. from Nanning, 180 km. from Hanoi,
capital of Vietnam, 308 km. from Zhushan port, Tanji port and
Jingdao island of Dongxing are open to navigation within South
China and Vietnam ports.
Dongxing's resources are abundant. Its mountainous
regions and highlands are suitable for planting cassia, anise,
litchi and longan while its coastal sea farms produce lots of
sea treasures such as prawn, blue and green crab, mud blood
clam, clam etc. Dongxing is also a tourist zone integrating
characteristics of borders, seas, mountains, nationality customs
and transnational tourism enjoying both natural sights and humane
landscapes such as Wanwei Gold Beaches, Ho Chi Minh Pavilion,
Qing Dynasty Qinzhou No. One Boundary Tablet, and Jing Nationality
Song Festival.
The Bei Lun River separates Dongxing less than
100 meters from Vietnam mong cai and it is only180 kilometers
from Dongxing to Vietnam Ha Long Bay, a place praised as "
Maritime Guilin" - one of the world's seven famous natural
landscapes. Tourism development is of great promise.
Trades and businesses are prosperous in Dongxing.
Built in Ming dynasty and prosperous in Qing Dynasty it has
a history of more than 400 years. In 1940s, Dongxing became
a trading port for Southeast Asia, the United States, Japan,
Great Britain, France, etc. and was known as small Hong Kong.
Since China and Vietnam resumed border trades
in the spring of 1989, Dongxing's trade turnover has reached
over £¤1,8 billion totally, bringing a profit of over £¤100 million
to both the country and the region.
Dongxing offers favorable polices. The preferential
polices granted by the State to the opening borderline cities
and towns, border trades, minority areas' poverty relief, overseas
affairs etc, can be utilized.
Since 1992, Dongxing, regarding trade as a leading industry,
has greatly strengthened infrastructure constructions such as
energy, traffic, communication, etc. By the end of 1995, it
has invested altogether over £¤800 million in fixed assets, more
than 5 times of the total £¤150 million invested in its whole
social fixed assets in the past 42 years before 1992.
Of the investment, £¤480 million is used for infrastructure
construction. At present, projects that have been completed
and gone into operation include a waterworks with a daily water
supply of 20,000 tons, a 110 KV electricity transmitting and
converting project, 4000 program-controlled telephones, the
International Trade Market, and others concerning medical treatment,
hygiene, schools, ports, quays, etc.
The urban area has expanded from 0.86 sq. km.
in 1992 to 3.2 sq. km. in 1995. The construction of Wanwei Gold
Beach Tourist and Holiday Zone is well under way, with a planned
investment of over £¤1 billion. Other infrastructure projects
that have come into use are Jingdao Holiday Village, Jinggang
Market, etc. Four main arterial highways of 18 km. have been
completed and more other facilities are speeding up in construction.
By the end of 1995£¬ over 300 enterprises from
China's 26 provinces and over 10 countries and regions have
invested in Dongxing. Approved items have amounted to 379, with
more than £¤4,8 billion of total investment. 983 industrial and
commercial enterprises have been registered in Dongxing with
a registered capital of more than £¤3,5 billion and an employed
staff of more than 20,000.
Dongxing will develop into a modernized border
port city where trade, tour and processing businesses will function
together in the future. It is planned that by the year 2010,
Dongxing's urban areas will be extended to 25 sq. km. and its
population will reach 300,000.
