Trade --Guangxi
Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, located in the frontier area
of South-west China, borders the North Bay in the south, provinces
of Guangdong and Hainan, Hongkong and Macao in the east, Provinces
of Yunnan and Guizhou in the west, Hunan Province in the north
and Vietnam in the southwest. It is situated in the joint section
of Southwest China and the southeastern coastal area. It is the
mere coastal region in southwest China. It is the hub linking
China with other southeast Asian countries.
Guangxi is situated north latitude 20¡ã54¡ä- 26¡ã23¡ä, and east latitude
104¡ã28¡ä- 112¡ã 64¡ä, located in the southeastern edge of Yunnan
- Guizhou Plateau. The ground slopes down from northwest to southeast.
Gigantic mountains roll on. Surrounded by mountains, the region
is called Guangxi Basin.
The total land area of Guangxi is 236,000 square kilometers.
One striking characteristic of Guangxi is that there are more
hills and mountains than flat land and the portion for arable
land is small. In all kinds of land area, mountains with elevation
of 400m or above account for 39.4% of the total area; hills with
elevation between 200m and 400m account forareas; which are 200m
below the sea level account for 6.3%; flat land accounts for 23.4%
and the water surface 2% of the total area.
There are a rich variety of minerals in Guangxi and their reserves
are abundant. They are mainly stored and have great potentialities
for development, with the acknowledged number of varieties at
almost 100.
7 counties in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region are bounded by
Vietnam. There are 11 frontier ports in the region. Pingxiang,
Dongxing and Shuikou are national grade 1 ports. Besides, there
are 25 border trade spots which are accessible by highway and
railway. The Friendship Pass is 180 kilometers away from the capital
of Vietnam. Hunan - Guangxi Railway is linked by Vietnamese railway.
The frontier areas in the region endow merchants in South- western
provinces with good opportunities to conduct border trade and
transfer trade.
