Location and Industrial Layout
Chengdu Hi-tech Zone (hereinafter called ¡°the Zone¡±) was established
in 1988, and ratified by the State Council as the State Hi-tech
Industrial Development Zone in March, 1991. The Zone is one of
the APEC scientific and technological parks in China. The Zone
consists of south region and west region with a planned area of
87 km2 (including 47 km2 of the south and 40 km2 of the west).
The pillar industries in the Zone are electronic IT and biomedical
engineering. In 2002, GDP totaled 16.8 billion, an increase of
25% over last year; industrial output totaled 38.8 billion, increased
by 24.5%. Total income from technology-industry-trade operation
was 47.2 billion, increased by 27%.
By 2002, foreign invested projects totaled more than 400, with
the investment of more than 1.5 billion U.S. dollars. Now a number
of famous international/foreign companies have invested in the
Zone, including Motorola, Intel, Corning, Toyota, Accor, Fairchild,
Parker Aerospace, Sumitomo, Mitsubishi, Itochu, Fuji, Carrefour,
Alcatel, Siemens and Marconi. Hi-tech enterprises totaled more
than 600.

Local Environment
According to the environment monitoring data, the indexes of
underground water meet the Quality Standard of Underground Water.
The atmosphere quality is ranked as ¡®II¡¯ or ¡®good¡¯ in the Zone.
At the end of 2001, the Management Committee of Chengdu High-tech
Zone passed the ISO14001 Environmental Quality Management System
authentication and received UKASISO14001 international certification
and ISO14001 Chinese certification.
