Mawei High-tech Park was set up in 1988 and approved by the State Council in Mar. 1991. In 1995, Fuzhou Municipal Government decided to build Baiyi Electronic Information City covered 1.2 square km in the Park to make it the lead for electronic industry in Fuzhou. To enhance the area's function of new high-tech industry development, the Administrative Commission of Mawei High-tech Park was set up in 1999. It definitely planed 5.6km2 area between Gushan Channel and Mawei Channel, Jiangbin Road and Fuma Road as the High-tech Area.
During these years, with high-tech development as target, the Park attracts the technology venture capital and support the science enterprises to make excellent environment for high-tech products industrialization according to the international practice. It takes the new high-tech industry as lead and puts emphasis on electronic information, semiconductor, hardware and software of computer, biologic medicine, light industry and metallurgy, etc. Up till now, it has taken the electronic information, biologic & chemical projects and metallurgy as the backbone industry and Chunghwa Picture Tubes, JVC electronic equipment Tatara audio equipment, EPSON Printer and South Coast Biologic Project as focus. With the completion of Jiangbin Road, Baiyi Electronics Information City has increased to 1.8km2 on the base of first period. It develops to the Ming River and builds the new high-tech and international image for Baiyi Electronics Information City with the advantages of Jiangbin Road. Newland Science & Tech Park, the Overseas Students Pioneer Park and Scientific Transformation Base for National 863 Plan are building up and the area has become one of the electronic bases with largest scale and most centralized in Fujian.
"Science and technology is the first productive force". The Park with becoming the Guigu in Fujian increases the science and technology investment to support the new high-tech enterprises and, at the same time, pays much attention to the cross century talents. It makes out the relevant policy to improve the welfare of high-tech talents and form a positive environment.
