Xiamen Haicang Investment
Area
Facing Taiwan across the Taiwan Straits, Xiamen, lies in the coast
areas of Southeast China, is one of the areas closest to Southeast
Asia and Oceania as for the sea route. Because of its geographical
position, Xiamen is regarded as a gateway and base of China's association
with the outside world. Being part of Xiamen, Haicang is situated
at the booming triangular area which consists of Xiamen, Zhangzhou
and Quanzhou and faces Xiamen Island across the sea.
In May, 1989, the establishment of Haicang Taiwanese Investment
Zone was approved by the State Council of China. Haicang, the
famous port with 300 years history, had become the most largest
Taiwanese investment zone in China covering an area of 100 sq.km
since then. It enjoys the preferential policies of Xiamen Economic
Special Zone. It has advantageous location for port construction.
There are four 10, 000 tonnage berthes being built. There is a
bridge connecting the zone and Xiamen.
