Ha Noi, July 8 (VNA) - Viet Nam's rice exports are likely to
reach around 3.9 million tonnes this year, representing a year-on-year
increase of 400,000 tonnes, a Trade Ministry official said.
The official attributed the rise to the world's increasing demand
in recent months, coupled with a decline in exports from leading
rice exporters such as Thailand and India.
Over the first half of this year, Viet Nam exported 2.394 million
tonnes of rice, earning 457 million USD, a year-on-year increase
of 54.1 percent in quantity and 36.4 percent in value.
In June alone, the country exported 400,000 tonnes of rice, raising
the staple's export turnover to 83 million USD.
